Equality Objectives
Objective 1
Undertake fortnightly analysis of attendance data for disadvantaged pupils and trends with regard to attendance and take steps to improve this if it is below attendance for non-disadvantaged pupils.
Why we have chosen this objective: Nationally pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds have lower attendance than pupils who are non-disadvantaged.
To achieve this objective we plan to: Regularly monitor attendance, contact parents and encourage attendance if the pupil is absent, monitor cases with the Educational Welfare Officer, fine parents for unauthorised attendance, request evidence of medical issues if the pupil is regularly not attending, meet with parents and pupil to find out the causes for nonattendance.
Objective 2
Provide SEMH support for looked after and adopted pupils to help them to better engage with lessons and improve relationships with other pupils.
Why we have chosen this objective: Looked after and post-looked after children are more likely to struggle to behave appropriately in school, form healthy relationships with others and can have unmet needs if appropriate SEMH support is not provided.
To achieve this objective we plan to: Use a specialist trainer to raise awareness and knowledge and skills of teachers in supporting looked after and adopted pupils, analyse the behaviour data of these children to identify possible issues, analyse attainment data of looked after and adopted pupils against non-adopted pupils
Progress we are making towards this objective: New looked-after pupil starting therapy this month. Looked-after pupil with additional needs transferred to specialist provision in July following rigorous additional SEMH support from the school.
Further actions: Support looked-after pupil using Personal Education Plan (PEP) and continue to monitor attainment and attendance data for LAC pupils.
Objective 3
To increase the participation parents at parents evening, particularly for those in receipt of Pupil Premium.
Why we have chosen this objective: Parental engagement in the child’s school life is a factor in the child being successful. Attendance for parent’s evening for those in receipt of PP is low.
To achieve this objective, we plan to: Encourage parents to attend, invite them at different times, consider ‘Structured Conversation’ meetings for harder to reach parents.
